Stormforce Gaming – The Best Free PC Games Available!

Get gaming on your new Stormforce System with this list of Free to Play essential titles!

One of the best things about gaming in 2022 is the shift in how games development is funded. Many games still adhere to the classic structure where a game is developed and the customer buys the title. In the past decade PC gaming has seen a great shift towards games that offer free to play elements or are completely free to play.

If something is a too good to be true, there is usually a catch, right? Well, probably yes. Every free to play game is usually available to you at no cost with some features implemented to help fund development of the title. Usually this includes microtransactions or in game currency purchases to enable you to unlock cosmetic skins and additional content. The good news is that most games that are classed as ‘Free to Play’ are just that. You don’t need to spend any money on content to have access to a pretty substantial list of games to keep you busy. We would suggest trying a game out properly and really getting a lot of hours on it before parting with any cash.

If you are downloading free to play games for your children then it is really important to make sure they don’t have access to payment and wallet services. It is a really good idea to consider only buying pre paid credits for games you are playing. Many supermarkets and game shops carry these gift cards. They work in game to provide ‘in game currency’ and can help you put in place a sensible spending cap.

We have put together a list of our favourite PC Games which can be picked up today completely free.
Every game title also has a handy link so you can download the game easily.
This is a great way to get gaming on your Stormforce PC and in some cases these titles offer cross platform play allowing you to join in on games with your friends who play on other platforms too!

Overwatch 2 Teamwork

Overwatch 2
The return of Overwatch sees a move to Play for Free. Including over 35 heroes, loads of maps, game modes and optional season content, Overwatch 2 has a plethora of content to get you gaming with friends using crossplay and progression across multiple platforms. There is a huge amount of depth to Overwatch and the new reduction of team size in the new game gives you a real focus on teamwork and class choice. Gamers who enjoy shooters but aren’t hyper competitive can also get a huge amount out of Overwatch 2 as there are many heroes on the roster that reward team play and support roles just as much as damage dealers.

Genshin Impact has a vast world to explore

Genshin Impact
Fans of open world RPG games will love what Genshin Impact has to offer. There is a gigantic amount of content on offer in this game with a vast world to explore and a host of future content planned. Genshin Impact features a really long main story with loads of puzzles, side quests and bosses to battle through. The content on offer already is really worth checking out if you have ever played a Zelda game and want more. Genshin does rely quite a lot on microtransactions but that element is quite easy to ignore and you can get a huge amount of play time and value from the game without spending a single penny.

World of Tanks
If you like tanks. Then you’re going to love World of Tanks. This title takes a bit of getting used to but there is a handy newcomers guide on the World of Tanks website that will help you get to grips with the way the game works quickly. WoT is a really popular game which relies on good movement, decisive decision making and strategy to succeed. You can upgrade and customise your vehicles over time to personalise your experience and play in a variety of maps and warzones that suit you. We have found that WoT runs really well on a huge variety of hardware and our customers who play the game always comment how nicely it runs on even an entry level Stormforce System

Halo Infinite Multiplayer
The Campaign for Halo Infinite is a full price game, however the multiplayer is free to play. Launching at the end of 2021, Halo Infinite multiplayer got mixed reviews but remains a really cool PC gaming experience. Halo offers awesome gunplay with the classic feeling Halo shooting and movement. There is plenty of action in Halo Infinite and whilst it is really geared towards FPS players with experience, there is a good matchmaking system that usually pairs you up with players of similar skill so you have a balanced experience and don’t get stomped by elite players immediately. There is a steep learning curve to Halo Infinite but it is super rewarding once you learn to balance your shield, ammo and movement to your benefit.

Rocket League
This might be potentially the most addictive game ever created. Rocket League is easy to play but difficult to master and rewards practice. The principle is simple. Arcade style RC Car Soccer. Ball goes in goal – Explosions happen. Rocket League has a huge player base and a great league system meaning you can work your way up and always have competitive games available to you. It doesn’t matter if you are nudging the ball around or volleying it into the back of the net with a turbo boosted backflip corkscrew turn. Rocket League is about as satisfying to get right as it is when you start out and you suck at the game. We recommend a controller for this one to get the best experience but it is entirely workable with a keyboard and mouse.

Dota 2 has a real focus on competitive balance and the core of the game is designed with fair play and balance in mind. With over 100 heroes to choose from (all of which are free) there is something for everyone to identify with in this amazing game.

Apex Legends
This game came out of nowhere and immediately established itself as one of the ultimate Battle Royale experiences. Apex does things differently by introducing legends with unique skills to the battle royale format. You can play Apex on huge maps with the typical battle royale combat traits or duke it out in smaller close combat arenas that depend on skill more than the element of surprise. Apex has an ever changing list of modes and content changes each season to keep things fresh.

TF2 went free to play in 2011 and since then the game has had a steady influx of new players. Whilst there isn’t a gigantic amount of fresh content coming out for TF2, there is certainly enough for a new player to enjoy. TF2 remains one of the most exciting, accessible multiplayer shooters on the PC and will entertain you no matter your skill level with shooting games. If you find a good group, server or Discord community to play with then TF2 is a vibrant and fun game to pick up and play often and remains truly excellent even after all these years.

Fall Guys
Welcome to the Blunderdome! Fall Guys is a battle royale game with a difference. You take part in a series of ‘its a knockout’ style events which narrow down the field of 60 players down to one winner. Every round of Fall Guys presents an obstacle course full of peril that each player must rush to complete at the same time as the rest of the field. Chaos ensues when every player is stumbling along trying to get to the finish line. Fall Guys is also another cross platform game which allows you to play alongside your friends on Nintendo Switch, Playstation and XBOX platforms too.

Released this year in early access, Shatterline is the newest title in this list and perhaps one of the most interesting. Developed by an independent studio in Kyiv, Ukraine. Shatterline is an arena FPS title with a strong collection of exciting game modes and a roguelike coop mode. Shatterline brings a different flavour of FPS to the table with a diverse list of game modes including TDM, Conquest, Plant the Bomb and Escort. In addition, the coop mode ‘Expedition’ in Shatterline is an interesting way to work together with a team through a narrative driven storyline. Whilst the game is still in development for a scheduled full release in Feburary 2023, there is a lot to do here and Shatterline remains one to watch as the team continue putting out meaningful updates in a timely manner.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner. PUBG – previously known as PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds  is one of the early hits in the battle royale genre. The game was originally available as a mod but soon developed into a standalone game. Up to 100 players parachute down into the map to scavenge for weapons, armour and loot. The aim of the game is to eliminate other players before being eliminated yourself. With the safe area always closing in, PUBG presents the classic Battle Royale formula in a way that many other titles imitate but few manage to master. This is an intense and difficult game that is a real challenge to win. Recently PUBG has had a lot of quality of life improvements since moving to Free to Play. This easier to navigate control scheme and user interface really helps the game to be more accessible to new players. You will die a lot, but thats PUBG. Ranked modes in PUBG are charged using a battlepass system but there is plenty to try out for no charge here whilst you get your skills up to scratch.

Stormforce Gaming x Cougar Gaming – Case Range Update

Cougar Gaming are the latest addition to the Stormforce Gaming Prebuilt System range.

The most important part of any Gaming PC is the case. For many people, the case IS the computer.

The way your gaming system performs can depend heavily on the case so we put a lot of time into choosing the right ones for our systems.

When we select components for our range at Stormforce, we look at a huge amount of factors on each product to make sure it will perform long term for our customers.
Every gamer has different priorities on what they want from a gaming PC but we all share one thing in common, reliability. If your system runs too hot or is unpredictable when you are in a game, it can ruin hours of hard work.

When selecting a case for our gaming PC range, we try to find models that are well built, hard wearing and good looking. Nobody wants their high performance gaming system in a boring case, so factoring in aesthetic features like addressable RGB lighting, tempered glass side panels, good cable management and fan control options is super important to give gamers the complete package.

Stormforce Gaming partnered with Cougar Gaming at the start of 2022 with the goal to produce a range of gaming systems with a small desktop footprint, exceptional cooling performance and a stylish design. We selected three cases from the Cougar range that really impressed us. In addition to this, each Cougar Gaming case we offer comes with enhanced custom Stormforce packaging solutions to ensure that your system is cushioned and well protected in transit. In the unlikely event that you need to use our industry leading warranty service, the enhanced packaging will help protect the system on its way back for repair. (We collect your system for the full three years of your warranty at our cost, most other system builders don’t do that)

Cougar Gaming MX410 Mesh-G RGB
This compact ATX gaming case has a full mesh front panel to help maximise airflow through the system. With three front mounted 120mm ARGB fans, this case provides quiet operation with unimpeded airflow that helps to keep your whole system cool. In addition, the MX410 Mesh-G RGB can accommodate a huge variety of gaming system configurations including high power graphics cards. This case comes complete with a good mix of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 front panel connectors to provide you with huge levels of high speed connectivity.

Cougar Gaming MG140 Air RGB
We wanted to introduce a compact microATX gaming case to our range that would appeal to a diverse group of gamers. The MG140 Air RGB features a clean front panel with hidden mesh venting that allows for good airflow but with a mature, stylish aesthetic that would look right at home in a contemporary office or in an RGB bonanza gaming setup. The MG140 has a tiny footprint which maximises internal capacity to accommodate a good variety of performance hardware.

Cougar Gaming MX430 Air RGB
Rounding out our new trio of gaming cases, the MX430 Air RGB builds on the foundation of the compact MG140 and raises the bar. Featuring similar design language, the MX430 continues the sleek aesthetic that looks at home on any desk. With full lighting control and great support for components, the MX430 allows us to build our systems with optimised cabling to enhance the airflow capabilities of the case.

A host of customisable lighting options to fit into any setup

The Cougar Gaming cases in our range were selected to provide a flexible case option within the Stormforce Gaming product catalogue. Each of these cases have fully customisable RGB lighting which can be adjusted to your tastes. If you want a rainbow of colours, a static colour or a subtle white lighting to match your desktop layout then each of our Cougar Gaming offerings can match up with the look you are going for. If RGB lighting isn’t your thing then the lights can be turned down or off if you prefer a more stealth look.

Cougar Gaming cases showcase epic Cable Management

With a chambered design, the power supply and cables within your system are separated from the main area of your case. By splitting the chambers within your case, airflow gets to the right places and cables can be discreetly routed in a neat and effective way.

At Stormforce Gaming, our expert technical staff have years of experience in assembling performance gaming and workstation systems. Each system we build is approached with the same care and attention regardless of its price tag. When you get your new Stormforce Gaming system delivered, it may not be immediately apparent that the cabling within your PC has been executed with such care. Removing the rear panel showcases the expertise of our assembly staff as well as the benefits that our Cougar Gaming cases offer. Each case gives us an opportunity to mange cables away from the main airflow path. This helps to optimise airflow reaching key components in your system such as your CPU cooler, graphics card and motherboard.

Star Wars Squadrons – Overview and System Recommendations

Star Wars Squadrons brings the thrill of blockbuster movie space combat to your Stormforce Gaming PC…

Released at the start of October 2020, Star Wars Squadrons propels gamers into the legendary space combat between the Galactic Empire and the New Republic.

Squadrons boasts an immersive story mode set after the events of Return of the Jedi and features a plethora of references that will appeal to even the most casual Star Wars fans. You take the seat of pilots in Imperial Titan Squadron and the Alliance Vanguard Squadrons as you learn the basics of space flight, starfighter control systems and the careful balance between engines, shields and weapons systems. After a short time and some practice, you will be able to ‘boost drift’ past enemy starfighters, perform wild manoeuvres and minimise hull damage whilst locking onto your next target.

The story mode will introduce you to the basic controls and systems for each of the four starfighter classes on both sides.

Fighter Class ships are represented by the TIE Fighter and X-Wing which are well balanced and versatile for any situation.
Interceptor Class Starfighters like the A-Wing and TIE Interceptor are speedy ships with less armour but much faster engine systems.
Bomber Class ships include the TIE Bomber and Y-Wing and are perfect for dealing huge damage to enemy flagships and critical objectives.
Support Class vessels like the TIE Reaper and U-Wing play a disruptive role and help your squadron stay in the fight longer.

You can also take your newly mastered skills online into Dogfight mode where up to 10 players can battle it out for supremacy in a variety of space combat arenas, each with their own unique appearance, there is also plenty of terrain and debris to block enemy fighters line of sight and avoid crashing into!

Fleet Battles is the main online mode with the objective of taking down the enemy Capital Ship. There is no other game available right now that provides the feeling of taking down an Imperial Star Destroyer quite as well as Squadrons.

Playing Online Multiplayer earns you Glory points which gives you the options to apply cosmetic upgrades to your ship and cockpit. Choose from different hull paint jobs, decals, holograms and even Ewok bobbleheads!

Every starfighter has a host of loadout options allowing you to customise weapon slots, repair droids and hull armour so you can maximise your time on the attack.

Great for Controller, Keyboard and Mouse and Flight Stick

Every player is catered for in Squadrons. The game has responsive keyboard and mouse controls that most PC gamers will be familiar with from the off. Using your mouse to aim and acquire targets feels natural and responsive.
Using the Microsoft XBOX Controller with PC, you can use the built in control scheme to pilot your ship with devastating efficiency. Your controller is fully remappable meaning you can tweak your input configuration to find the best balance for this fast paced game.
The ultimate way to play squadrons is with a HOTAS control setup (short for Hands on Throttle and Stick). This will include a separate joystick and throttle input that give you precise control over your starfighter.

Virtual Reality is incredible in Star Wars Squadrons

Squadrons is built from the ground up for VR support and creates an authentic and immersive experience that puts you right in the cockpit. VR support is integrated into the game and can be launched easily with minimal time spent configuring the game for good VR performance. All major VR headsets like the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and HP Reverb are supported and will provide real wow factor when playing the game. If you are in the fortunate position to own a HOTAS controller and a VR headset, you are in for a wild ride the first time you jump to lightspeed!
A powerful gaming system is suggested for the best results in Virtual Reality but a mid range system will play Squadrons in VR with the graphics settings adjusted to ensure smooth frame rates.

System Performance Suggestions

Squadrons performance scales very well across a wide variety of PC hardware and is very well optimised to present you with a smooth gaming experience at every monitor resolution.

  • At 1080p, entry level graphics cards like the AMD RX580 and NVIDIA GTX 1650 provide a very playable experience on maximum graphics settings.
  • Higher resolutions like 1440p can be achieved with higher tier cards like NVIDIA GTX 1660 Super or RTX 2060.
  • 4k and ultrawide monitor users can enjoy max settings gameplay, achievable with an RTX 2070 Super graphics card or higher.
  • VR users will benefit from the graphics performance of a higher end video card like an RTX 2060 Super or higher.

Stormforce Gaming have compiled a list of Star Wars Squadrons ready systems that will provide the performance you need to get into this exciting title. The newcomer friendly barrier of entry is extremely low, allowing casual fans to access the world of Star Wars space combat. There is a high skill ceiling and steep learning curve for players who want to learn to master ship commands, systems balancing and gain expert control of their starfighter in online multiplayer battles.
